About Us

Hey folks! Thanks for visiting my website.

My name is John Massaro, Owner of Cigar City Cattle Company. I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, and ever since I could remember I’ve had a passion for caring for animals, as well as loving the outdoors. I knew owning and operating a progressive angus cattle herd was something I saw for my future, especially because my dad owned a cattle business when I was growing up.

Realizing the demand for better beef, Cigar City Cattle Company began acquiring and breeding some of the most progressive Angus genetics in the Breed. Our goal of producing some of the top CED, WW, YW, CW, Marb, RE, and $BEEF EPDs is in motion.
We utilize current data, as well as progressive breeding and Embryo Transfer techniques to provide ranchers and breeders with some of the best Angus cattle available.

Cigar City Cattle Company is a Registered Black Angus Breeder rooted in Tampa, Florida. The Massaro family has been involved in both Dairy and Beef cattle operations dating back to the 1930's. Our long term goal is to have one of the most progressive Angus herds in the business.

Cigar City Cattle Company began when I purchased my first herd of cattle at the age of 22. Getting into the cattle business over 30 years ago seemed natural, as I grew up around my father's commercial Black Angus herd. I learned the ins-and-outs of the business, the value of hard work, ethics, and integrity. My first herd consisted of commercial Brahman cross cows and Angus bulls. Considered an above average herd, its performance allowed me the opportunity to purchase Registered cow calf pairs and 3-N-1's from the second oldest Registered Black Angus herd in the State of Florida. The following year I made a purchase of yearling Registered Angus Heifers. I later acquired a registered Gray Brahman bull and started a herd of True F1 Brangus. Prized by many commercial cattlemen in the South, the F1 Brangus has incredible hybrid vigor, enabling them to acclimate well to the heat, humidity and insects of Florida.

Family is very important to me. My wife, Donna, and I have been married since 1999. We have two kids, Matthew and Madison, and two grandkids. Our son Matt, his wife Miranda, and their 2 kids live on a fully functioning farm and brewery in upstate New York, Slow Fox Farm. Our daughter, Madison, owns an Interior Design company called Madison Lea Interiors. We are very proud of both of them.

We value God, Family, and Friends (in that order!) We believe that Stewardship is an honor, as well as a responsibility, of all the people of this great nation.
